Honoring our Mom

In lieu of flowers and gifts, please send donations to:

Arcadia High School
College and Career Center
4703 E. Indian School Road
Phoenix, AZ 85018

Checks should be made out to "Arcadia PTO/Titan Teacher Fund" and have "Suzy Van Sickle Scholarship" on the memo line. The Arcadia PTO is a non-profit organization and your donation is tax-deductible.

These contributions will be combined with additional funds to establish a scholarship to support Arcadia High School students attend the college of their choice. We will determine more specific details for the scholarship in the coming months.

Thank you all for your continued love and support.

Suzanne G. Van Sickle: March 12, 1942 - June 3, 2010

Suzanne Van Sickle passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours on June 3, 2010. Suzanne, called Suzy, Mom, and Oma by those who knew and loved her, had battled cancer for more than nine years, while at the same time living her life, loving her family, and serving as a college counselor to countless Arcadia High School students.
Mom was a beloved member of the old Arcadia community, living here for more than 30 years, at a time when citrus orchards and ranch style houses lined the streets. Our mom was a truly special woman, embodying grace, beauty, love, and compassion. We will be eternally proud to call her our mother; she was one of a kind.

The family plans to take a couple months to mourn our loss before holding a service, and we will inform you all well in advance of our plans. We ask that instead of flowers or gifts, please send a donation to Arcadia High School’s Titan Teacher Fund in Suzy’s name. The family is setting up a scholarship in her name and appreciates your contributions to continuing her legacy of supporting education and compassion.

Finally, we would like to thank you for your support over the past month. Your encouragement allowed us to be together during a very important time in our lives.

Backyard Baby Quail

We were delighted to see this baby quail in Oma's backyard yesterday and even happier that it is still here with us today. It cannot fly yet, though it is adorable when it tries, so it seems like it is less than a week old.

Mom and Arcadia High School

Just a small update to celebrate mom's retirement from Arcadia High School. We received this nice article from Kathy Crowe, mom's partner in crime at Arcadia's College and Career Center. It celebrates their amazing contributions to the community. We're so proud of our mom!
